I am a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan but I stopped watching regularly in 1979 because I thought the ‘business’ decisions that were made at the time were completely unfair and insulting to Scotty Bowman.. Glad to see he is being honoured now… The Canadiens haven’t been the same since he left…

Scotty Bowman, who holds the record for most wins by a National Hockey League coach, been named to the Order of Canada. Bowman was one of 66 people to be inducted Friday with Canada’s highest civilian honour.
Bowman, 78, recorded 1,244 regular-season wins and 223 more in the playoffs during his 30 seasons as a coach with the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings.
He won nine Stanley Cups as a coach – an NHL record. He was behind the bench for the Canadiens’ dynasty of the 1970s, winning five titles, including four straight from 1976-79. He also won Stanley Cups with the Penguins in 1992 and Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
Bowman, a Montreal native, is the senior adviser of hockey operations for the Chicago Blackhawks. His son, Stan Bowman, is the team’s general manager.
